Posted by fervas su gennaio 3, 2010

We are pleased to announce the International Postgraduate Conference organised by the University
of Rome “La Sapienza” and the young researchers’ group APhEx (Analytical and Philosophical
Explanation):

“Word and Object”, 50 years later.
Colloquium in Celebration of  W.V.O. Quine

First Call for Papers
In the fifty years of the publication of Word and Object, the conference aims to celebrate one of
America’s most famous and influential philosophers and mathematicians: W.V.O. Quine. The
purpose of the conference is to discuss and explore some of the major Quinean theses: his
objections to the analytic/synthetic distinction, meaning scepticism, inscrutability of reference,
indeterminacy of translation, his views on logic and philosophy of mathematics, his stance on
metaphysics and ontological commitment.

Keynote Speakers
Prof. Cesare Cozzo (University of Roma “La Sapienza”)
Prof. Alberto Voltolini (University of Turin)
Prof. Stephen White (Tufts University)

Submission details
We invite all graduate and postgraduate students, who currently work in Quine’s philosophy, to
submit papers which should be preferentially in – but not limited to – one of those issues:

Epistemological and Linguistic Holism;
Naturalism and naturalization;

Quine on logic and science.

words. Submissions are made electronically by email attachment to Francesca Ervas at
ervas@uniroma3.it and Vera Tripodi at vera.tripodi@uniroma1.it by 1 March 2010. You will be sent
a confirmation note after your submission has been received. The file formats .pdf, .rtf and .doc
